June 4th. Dalton Hadley defeated David French Jr 2 &1 in a competitive second round match. Dave Jr. started strong but after a year off didn't have the stamina or consistency to close it out. Dalton wobbled a bit with 4 to go but regained steadiness on 17 and closed it out.
It’s great to see “Dee” back on the course and on the road to recovery after a long and courageous battle. Hadley will meet Ed Fisher in round 3 of the D bracket.
June 4th. Junebug Rakes and Dave French Sr teed it up in a third round C flight match. The match was tied through 10 when Dave turned it on - eventually winning 3&2. French will meet Jeff Sweet in round 3.
June 3rd. Mark Hardy and Ed Fisher dueled in a nip and tuck match this Tuesday in a match with 9 lead changes. Fisher eventually prevailed going par, par to win 2 up. Hardy summed it up by saying "We both tried to give it to one another, but the youth came through at the end."
June 2nd. Greg Schrenger and Steve Sweet went toe-to-toe in a third-round match this past Monday. After falling 3 down through seven holes, Steve rallied to tie the match on 13 and then took the lead on 15. Greg evened things up on 16, where it remained tied through regulation play, with both players going par-bogey and forcing a playoff. Greg clinched the victory on the first playoff hole. Sweet summed it up , saying, “I knew it was over when I hit my second shot out of bounds!”
June 2nd. Brian Maraman and Blair Betz teed it up in a third-round match. It was a tight match early, with Brian struggling on the par 5’s but sinking a long birdie putt on 7 to square the match. Blair hit it to 10 feet on 11 and made the putt. Brian hit three great putts on 12, 13, and 14 that didn’t drop, while Betz rolled in a 12-footer for birdie on 14 to go 3 up. Betz then bogeyed the next three holes, while Maraman made a long putt after his bunker shot on 15, had a near miss for birdie on 16, and drained another long putt for par on 17 after going over the green. Betz went long too but couldn’t get up and down.
On 18, with Betz getting a stroke - he nearly made an 18-footer for birdie to close it out, giving Brian a chance to send it to extra holes, but his birdie putt just missed—and that was the match. A great round by two very good players. Betz advances to Round 3, where Sheldon Hoagland awaits.
June 1st. Jon Lee and Dewayne Stopher teed it up in a third-round match this Sunday. Although neither player was in top form, it was a close battle throughout. Jon held the lead late, but Dwayne stepped up, winning the last three holes to force a playoff. Dewayne then sealed the deal with a par on #1 to win the match. He advances to the fourth round, where he’ll meet the winner of the Melnik/Eapley match
May 30th: Dave DeWilde and Mike Bass battled in a hard-fought and well-played second-round match on Friday. Dave took an early lead, going 2 up through #2, but Mike responded by winning the next two holes to tie the match. The next four holes were halved before Mike went 1 up at the turn. Dave leveled the match on 10, but Mike countered on 12 to reclaim a 1-up lead. Dave tied it again on 13, only for Mike to regain the advantage on 15. Dave answered on 16 to square it once more, then went 1 up on 17, clinching the win with a final halve on 18. Dewilde carded a gross 75, while Mike posted an 81 (including a triple on #1!). What a match, gentlemen!
May 25th. Jon Lee and Scott Squires mixed it up in a second round match. Lee came out strong and was never in jeopardy as Scotts putter failed him most of the day. Jon won the match 3&2.
May 25th. Dewayne Stopher and Shane Davis threw down in their second-round match this Monday. Shane found himself 3 down through 5, but mounted a strong comeback—taking the lead on 12 and going 2 up through 14. Dewayne answered in style, winning 3 of the final 4 holes to claim a hard-fought 1-up victory. Aside - Shane has taken a commanding lead in the most legible and easy-to-follow scorecard rankings.
May 20th.Tom Epley defeated Aaron 2&1 to advance to round 3.
May 16th. Tom Epley defeated Pat Masden 6 & 5, advancing to Round 2 where he’ll face Aaron Bray. Epley played steady despite the challenging winds, posting a solid 36 on the front. Masden struggled to find his rhythm, and even his best might not have been enough to keep up.
May 15th. Stefan Depauw ousted Chris Barrett in an exciting back-and-forth battle. The match was all square through 15, with both players sinking clutch par putts. Depauw took the lead with a par on 16, but Barrett answered by taking 17 to tie things up again. Stef sealed the deal on 18 to avoid extra holes. Marking the match, Jeff Sweet commented “Golf is a hard game.” Depauw and Barrett proved the point, carding uncharacteristic 90 and 95 respectively. Stef moves on to Round 3.
May 15th. Mark Hardy eliminated Deon Hoskins 4&2 in a match where neither had their 'A" Game. Both players carded 99 from the senior tees. Hardy advances to meet Ed Fisher in round 2.
May 14th. Dave French defeated Chris Williamson 2&1. In the end, Dave came through when it mattered most—hitting clutch shots and making several key bunker saves. His steady play proved to be the difference. French 42/44 86 Gold, C-Dub - a bit more than that.
May 14th. Jeff Sweet edged out Chris McKinney 2&1 in a sloppy grind of a match that neither one truly deserved to win. A rare birdie on 16 gave Jeff the lead, and from there, both players limped to the finish with Jeff showing just enough to close it out.
May 11th. Eric Hagan and Dennis Napper faced off in a second-round match on a beautiful Sunday morning. The match stayed close through the front nine, with Napper trailing by just two at the turn. But Eric’s steady play proved too much down the stretch, and he pulled away to secure the win. He advances to round three, where he’ll face the winner of the Casey/Westwood matchup.
May 11th. Matt Casey and Jason Luke played last Sunday in what could generously be called a pillow fight. Precision was optional, and style points were scarce. Jason managed to grab an early lead through six, but Casey came to life with a birdie on #8 and stole the next two holes as well. Jason clawed back to make it interesting, but then came the meltdown on #16 — an epic 11 that all but sealed his fate. Casey closed it out on #18. Matt carded an 84 and Jason an 89. Both players likely went home wondering what just happened.
May 8th 2025. Sheldon Hoagland and Ray Wampler teed it up in a well-played second-round match.Sheldon described it as a hard-fought battle with plenty of quality golf. Ray made a few untimely bogeys that proved costly, and Sheldon ultimately prevailed 3 & 2. He advances to round three, where he’ll face the winner of Blair Betz vs. Brian Maraman.
May 8th 2025. Steve Sweet topped Dan Bland in their first-round match. Steve was on fire the front nine with a 41, and took advantage of Dan having an off day. He closed it out with a convincing 7 & 6 victory and will face Beau Johnston in the second round.
May 7th 2025. Gary Melnik and Trenton Maraman squared off in a second-round singles match. Gary came out hot, jumping to a 6-up lead through 11 holes. Trenton rallied with back-to-back birdies — including nearly holing out from the fairway on #12 (just 4 inches away) — cutting the lead to 4 after 13. But it wasn’t enough on this day, as Melnik fired a bogey-free 69 to close it out. He advances to round three
May 1st 2025. Greg Schrenger and Mike Kaelin were the first to wrap up their singles match. Greg came out hot, while Mike started slow and found himself 5 down after seven holes. But in classic Kaelin fashion, he lulled Greg into a false sense of confidence and clawed his way back, cutting the lead to just one by the 15th. Greg woke up and responded with a birdie on 16 to make it dormie, then closed it out on 17. Kudos to both for a fine battle. Greg: 40/45 (85) Gold, Mike: 47–47 (95) White.
